Two Postdoctoral Research Positions in Characterization of Glycoconjugates

Two Postdoctoral Research Positions in Characterization of Glycoconjugates

There are two positions open immediately at the Analytical Services and Training Laboratory at the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center, University of Georgia.

Postdoctoral Position in isolation of glycoproteins and MS characterization

Research Description

The Analytical Service and Training Laboratory (ASTL) at the University of Georgia’s Complex Carbohydrate Research Center is seeking an experienced and motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team. Our work involves structural characterization of complex glycoproteins from plant, bacteria and animal sources using a combination of techniques including Glycomics and Glycoproteomics using mass spectrometry, and HPLC. This position will involve isolation and purification of proteins and glycans and performing structural analysis by LCMS/MS. This position will provide the candidate with the opportunity to collaborate with scientists from universities, research institutes and industries for the structural characterization studies.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. with strong motivation and a background in chemistry, biology or biochemistry or related disciplines
  • Minimum of 1-2 years laboratory experience with carbohydrates purification or analysis
  • A team player who thrives to work in a large collaborative scientific environment

Postdoctoral Position in isolation of polysaccharides and NMR characterization

Research Description

The Analytical Service and Training Laboratory (ASTL) at the University of Georgia’s Complex Carbohydrate Research Center is looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our growing team. Our work combines, purification, characterization, 1D and 2D NMR and mass spectrometry tools to elucidate the structure of complex polysaccharides, peptides and glycoproteins from plant, bacteria and animal sources. This position will provide the candidate with the opportunity to collaborate with scientists from universities, research institutes and industries using various analytical techniques for structural characterization. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics or a related discipline. Extensive background in biomolecular NMR or NMR method development is required. Our projects will include using a combination of techniques for isolation and purification of complex glycans prior to characterization by NMR and MS techniques.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. with strong motivation and a background in chemistry, biology or biochemistry or related disciplines
  • Minimum of 1-2 years laboratory experience with NMR is desired.
  • A team player who thrives to work in a large collaborative scientific environment

The Complex Carbohydrate Research Center has outstanding resources for high-field NMR spectroscopy, including 900 MHz, 800 MHz, three 600 MHz and a 500 MHz spectrometers. These spectrometers are equipped with variety of probes including a HRMAS probe for solid state analysis and several H-C/H-N
cryoprobes and HCN cryoprobes dedicated to biomolecular NMR applications. In addition, the ASTL is also equipped with the new Thermo Ascend Orbitrap, Thermo Eclipse Orbitrap, Fusion LTQ-ESI-MS, Elite-LTQ ESI-MS, 5800 MALDI-TOF-TOF, Bruker Rapiflex MALDI-MS mass spectrometers, CE and several HPLC, GC-MS instruments.
