Instrumentation
The Analytical Service and Training Laboratory is a unique facility with state-of-the-art instrumentation designed for detailed structural elucidation of complex carbohydrates.
We have MALDI-TOF and MALDI-TOF/TOF and electrospray and nanospray ionization techniques coupled with ion trap and Orbitrap mass analyzers including a thermo fusion tribrid mass spectrometry instrument. We perform tandem mass spectrometry using CID, HCD and ETD fragmentation and ion activation mechanisms for compositional and sequence analysis of N and O linked glycans and glycopeptides.
One dimensional and two dimensional Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy is used for the comprehensive structural analysis and repeating unit sequencing of polysaccharides and the full structural characterization of polysaccharides and glycans. Non carbohydrate substituents and molecular carbohydrate protein interactions can also be determined.
